Do You Want to Launch a Healthcare Startup?

Matthew Foy - Partner, SR One

Learn why Matthew Foy, from SR One, the corporate venture capital arm of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) who co-founded OneStart in collaboration with Oxbridge Biotech Roundtable (OBR), thinks you should apply to OneStart 2016.

As a Venture Capital firm, we have invested over $800M in early innovative healthcare companies and are constantly looking to develop the next wave of technologies that will transform patients' lives. We founded OneStart, with the Oxbridge Biotech Roundtable, to stimulate their inception by encouraging young entrepreneurs to start companies around their own innovation.
Over the past 4 years OneStart has grown into the world’s leading accelerator programme for young healthcare entrepreneurs. Our alumni have gone on to great success with 40+ teams, together, raising over $30M to date.
We are looking for innovations that have the potential to positively impact human health. We welcome ideas across therapeutics, diagnostics, research tools, medical devices, and software applications/digital health. These can be at any stage of development, from the “back of a napkin” to a patented device. Indeed, previous finalists have ranged from very early to clinical stage companies. There is absolutely no cost and teams retain full control and ownership of their business and IP. So there is no reason not to apply!
We will award non-dilutive funding of $150k/£100k (€135k), free lab space and on-going business and legal support to the team with the most exceptional idea in each of the two programme streams, 1) Americas and 2) Europe and the rest of the world.
However, the true prize of the OneStart programme is the real world training and education provided around healthcare entrepreneurship, with every one of our 70 semi-finalist teams receiving personalised mentorship and feedback from industry, investors and fellow entrepreneurs.

The deadline for the first round online application is Tuesday, 1 December 2015, which requires submitting a short 2-page application form. More information can be found on the OneStart website.

OneStart would not be possible without the huge amount of time and resources that our Global Partners (Johnson & Johnson Innovation, Takeda Ventures, Bristol-Myers Squibb, GSK, Roche, McKinsey, AstraZeneca, Boehringer Ingelheim, Teva Pharmaceuticals Ltd, McKinsey and Co.), European Partners (Medcity, Olswang, Silicon Valley Bank and the Stevenage Bioscience Catalyst) and a fleet of entrepreneurs and other industry professionals bring to the programme. We have been humbled by how wholly they have embraced OneStart and you should make the most of this opportunity to interact with them.
We are looking forward to hearing about your ideas and working with you to build your groundbreaking company over the course of OneStart 2016. If you are looking for inspiration have a look at some of our portfolio companies here – hopefully we’ll see you on this page one day too!
