Co-founder hub
Overview

"OneStart is a colossal stimulus for university entrepreneurship at all levels from undergraduates to academic staff."

– Hagan Bayley, Co-founder of Oxford Nanopore

The OneStart Co-founder Hub gives you the chance to build your perfect team or join a biotech startup.

All teams are advised to browse this hub to complement their teams with co-founders. One of our judging criteria will be the breadth of expertise within your team.

If you do not have an idea of your own, but experience or skills that would be useful to a bio-entrepreneur, register now as a co-founder. Our goal is to link people with ideas with those who can help them realise it.

Send an email now to somebody below, and who knows, you might be picking up an oversized cheque with them in May 2016.

Health problem is world-class disaster our human faced today. Nowadays, we have no good solution to this problem and the old business model suck. My purpose is to destroy the health framework and build a new one base on novel biotechnology.
My skill based nano-biotechnology and nano-fabrication. I have six years experience in lab-on-a-chip experience and also have a broad knowledge from business, electronics, and to design. I'm eager to meet some tech-geek/nerds who have the ambition and passion to change and re-shape the future world.

I am passionate about Biotech entrepreneurship because I believe that start-ups, university spin-outs and individual entrepreneurs in the Biotech and broader pharmaceutical sector are the key to the future development of the pharmaceutical industry as large pharma turn to in-licensing technologies rather than in house discovery and early development. I have a unique perspective, trained in Chemistry and Physics as an undergraduate, then obtaining a PhD in biotech/pharmaceutical formulation development. I now work as an associate at a biotech business development consultancy and as a postdoctoral researcher at Monash University on the “Inhaled Oxytocin Project” developing an innovative inhalable formulation of oxytocin for the prevention of post-partum haemorrhage in resource poor settings

Assistant Project Scientist at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD)
Summary: A self-motivated, innovative senior scientist with extensive biomedical research experiences, who independently perform the design, planning, execution and interpretation of complex in vivo studies.

Current projects: Employing vertebrate animal model to interrogate the signaling pathways controlling cardiovascular development, and translating our knowledge to understand human cardiovascular diseases. Aim to identify heart
disease origins, explore cures through studies of disease models, and provide strategies for regenerative medicine.

I am interested in entrepreneurship since it gives an opportunity to change lives. Every day presents new challenges and new opportunities which means no two days are ever the same. I thrive in fast paced and changing environment. The reason why I am particularly interested in" biotech" entrepreneurship is because of my background in Pharmacology and Physiology.
It is a great feeling to create something from nothing and turn your passion and beliefs into a business.
I am experienced in project coordination and competent at prioritisation, organisation and management of multiple tasks to achieve tight deadlines and objectives. Working on various group
projects helped me to improve some of the key entrepreneurial skills such as networking, communication, and negotiation.

I recently completed my PhD in tissue engineering and am currently working as a postdoc. I am very interested in the commercialisation of biotechnologies, in particular, medical devices, stem cell therapies, and tissue engineered scaffolds. I would love the opportunity to become involved in a project/business and learn more!

I have been trained in physics and I want to get into biotech - intriguing! Well, it's always pleasure to do physics, but what brings a little more pleasure and a sense of pride is - "This is what I have built-up using physics and yes, it can solve your problems". Exactly, this is the reason I want to get into entrepreneurship. Biotech attracts me because this is one way of making science reach to the masses and for a good reason.

I have specialised in optics and have been working on it for around 8 years now. I have fairly good understanding of optics and use of light as a probe. Last year, we (I and two of my teammates) have come up with a design (algorithm is in the test phase), for a device that is expected to raise an early alarm in case of MI, commonly known as heart-attack.

I'm a soon-to-be graduate from the Physics program at Queen's University, with a keen interest in the physics of cancer therapy. Currently I am completing my Honors Thesis at the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario, where I am performing preliminary Monte Carlo simulations for a new Cobalt-60 radiotherapy unit. This unit is a cheaper, more sustainable alternative to a Linac and could be a better option for cancer treatment in developing regions. I would be very interested in joining a biotech endeavor that is working to provide cheap, feasible health care technologies to developing countries.

My research project was ‘Surface modification of electrospun nano/micro-fibrous (PLGA) scaffolds via photo-chemical treatment for tissue engineering applications’. During the course of this project, I have answered the challenge of polymer synthesis, fabrication of polymer into delivery vehicle through electrospinning, polymer-growth factor conjugation and studied growth factor release profile. In addition, I have studied the stability of growth factors in tissue engineering scaffolds. Simultaneously, I have acquired experience of material characterization techniques, microscopy techniques (inverted, phase contrast and fluorescence) and in-vitro cell study techniques.

I am a medical professional specializing in neurosurgery. I am an attending clinical neurosurgeon at the University of California in Los Angeles and I am experienced in treating complex spinal deformities using state of the art surgical techniques. I also have had the opportunity to work with machine learning technologies for biomedical image analysis during my research fellowships. I believe that combining machine learning with advanced biomedical image analysis can usher in a new era of cutting edge minimally invasive spine surgery. I also have substantial expertise in developing and deploying hospital picture archiving and communication system (PACS) systems after having done so during my residency years.
