I have been trained in physics and I want to get into biotech - intriguing! Well, it's always pleasure to do physics, but what brings a little more pleasure and a sense of pride is - "This is what I have built-up using physics and yes, it can solve your problems". Exactly, this is the reason I want to get into entrepreneurship. Biotech attracts me because this is one way of making science reach to the masses and for a good reason.

I have specialised in optics and have been working on it for around 8 years now. I have fairly good understanding of optics and use of light as a probe. Last year, we (I and two of my teammates) have come up with a design (algorithm is in the test phase), for a device that is expected to raise an early alarm in case of MI, commonly known as heart-attack.

I'm a soon-to-be graduate from the Physics program at Queen's University, with a keen interest in the physics of cancer therapy. Currently I am completing my Honors Thesis at the Cancer Centre of Southeastern Ontario, where I am performing preliminary Monte Carlo simulations for a new Cobalt-60 radiotherapy unit. This unit is a cheaper, more sustainable alternative to a Linac and could be a better option for cancer treatment in developing regions. I would be very interested in joining a biotech endeavor that is working to provide cheap, feasible health care technologies to developing countries.

My research project was ‘Surface modification of electrospun nano/micro-fibrous (PLGA) scaffolds via photo-chemical treatment for tissue engineering applications’. During the course of this project, I have answered the challenge of polymer synthesis, fabrication of polymer into delivery vehicle through electrospinning, polymer-growth factor conjugation and studied growth factor release profile. In addition, I have studied the stability of growth factors in tissue engineering scaffolds. Simultaneously, I have acquired experience of material characterization techniques, microscopy techniques (inverted, phase contrast and fluorescence) and in-vitro cell study techniques.

I am a medical professional specializing in neurosurgery. I am an attending clinical neurosurgeon at the University of California in Los Angeles and I am experienced in treating complex spinal deformities using state of the art surgical techniques. I also have had the opportunity to work with machine learning technologies for biomedical image analysis during my research fellowships. I believe that combining machine learning with advanced biomedical image analysis can usher in a new era of cutting edge minimally invasive spine surgery. I also have substantial expertise in developing and deploying hospital picture archiving and communication system (PACS) systems after having done so during my residency years.
