Co-founder hub

"OneStart is a colossal stimulus for university entrepreneurship at all levels from undergraduates to academic staff."

– Hagan Bayley, Co-founder of Oxford Nanopore

The OneStart Co-founder Hub gives you the chance to build your perfect team or join a biotech startup.

All teams are advised to browse this hub to complement their teams with co-founders. One of our judging criteria will be the breadth of expertise within your team.

If you do not have an idea of your own, but experience or skills that would be useful to a bio-entrepreneur, register now as a co-founder. Our goal is to link people with ideas with those who can help them realise it.

Send an email now to somebody below, and who knows, you might be picking up an oversized cheque with them in May 2016.

Brief intro
Following a solid academic grounding in bioscience research, I have spent the last few years in commercial technology development, principally software development in a variety of scientific and engineering domains. I enjoy working in small, dynamic teams to bring new ideas and products to life, and have experience in project management and in recruiting and supervising others. My industrial experience has also given me some insight into how things work in the commercial world, including such areas as intellectual property, engineering and design, manufacturing and sales channels.

I believe my technical and supervisory experience would make me a good fit for a role such as CTO in a biotech startup, or a solid addition with commercial experience in a digital health or medtech project.

Currently I am a last year PhD student in university of Ottawa working on red blood cells aggregation analysis. I have acquired many skills through my studies including Image processing, CAD design, stress analysis, kinematic analysis, computation fluid mechanics and PLC logic design. Similarly, I have learned many computer programs in my field that makes these jobs way easier including C++ and Fortran programing languages, Matlab, ADAMS, ANSYS workbench, ANSYS Fluent and ANSYS CFX.
I had one goal in my mind when I was learning all these skills. My aim was (and still is) to apply these skills in an environment where creativity and innovation is the main objective.

Biotech offers one of the most promising areas with which entrepreneurship can transform our lives for the better. I seek projects that can truly make a positive impact on the world, and allow me to apply and further develop my key skills of Problem Solving, Software Engineering, Maths, Physics and Finance. As a Post-doc Researcher and Software Developer in the Maths Institute at Oxford University, I love learning and challenging myself. I aim to be as adaptable and flexible as I possibly can be, and the variety of work required in founding a Biotech start-up offers, I believe, great opportunities for my own personal growth.

Brief intro
Originally from the UK, I received my PhD from Edinburgh University studying chromatin structure in Robin Allshire's laboratory before moving to Stanford to enjoy the Californian weather as a postdoc in the Biochemistry department.

My current research in Aaron Straight's laboratory studies the regulation of protein networks at the centromeric region of chromosomes. This work aims to better understand how cells become cancerous by identifying how key centromeric protein complexes interact and are regulated to prevent chromosome mis-segregation - the most common hallmark of human solid tumor cells.

As well as using molecular cloning and mammalian tissue culture techniques, my work specializes in the use of single molecule imaging, protein production / purification, and mass spectrometry.

I’m Kwan, a third year PhD student in biomedical science from Imperial College London. My project now is about the application of stem cells, besides, I have my Master degree in toxicology, from which I can provide some idea about the toxicity test. Since I’ve been working in academia for a while, I’m always interested in understanding how to put the finding in the lab into real market. So if you think I fit in your team, please feel free to contact me.

I have always had an interest in understanding how biological processes are regulated and how they result in organism homeostasis. this had lead me to pursue a PhD in Life sciences and a subsequent Post-doctoral position. However, I found that there a divide between pursuit of the understanding how an organism works and what causes disease and actually seeking to create better treatments and diagnostics to improve quality of life. Therefore, I embarked in the world of entrepreneurship with the aim to create real impact by attempting to arm the scientific community with better and more reliable research tools as well as development diagnostics to fulfill unmet needs.
