Co-founder hub
Overview

"OneStart is a colossal stimulus for university entrepreneurship at all levels from undergraduates to academic staff."

– Hagan Bayley, Co-founder of Oxford Nanopore

The OneStart Co-founder Hub gives you the chance to build your perfect team or join a biotech startup.

All teams are advised to browse this hub to complement their teams with co-founders. One of our judging criteria will be the breadth of expertise within your team.

If you do not have an idea of your own, but experience or skills that would be useful to a bio-entrepreneur, register now as a co-founder. Our goal is to link people with ideas with those who can help them realise it.

Send an email now to somebody below, and who knows, you might be picking up an oversized cheque with them in May 2016.

With a recent PhD in cell biology, I am a postdoc developing novel assays applicable in preclinical drug discovery processes. I co-invented and developed a novel method for testing specific enzymatic reactions in a high-throughput manner, which is currently undergoing a European patent application process.

Besides my research skills, I gained experience in technology commercialisation and business development through my current work in a dynamically growing international network of innovative entrepreneurs, researchers and investors.

An enthusiastic team player with a strong background in molecular biology and drug discovery, with some experience in IP protection, technology commercialisation and investment, I am now looking to join a great team for a new, exciting challenge!

I have developed business plans surrounding a small-molecule antiviral drug and a healthcare IT platform for booking elective surgeries. I was President of the Penn Biotech Group at Wharton, doing project management and consulting for both large and small biotech/pharma/device companies. I have consulted to VC firms on investments in the HIV space. My Ph.D. thesis was in HIV Virology and I am currently a Postdoc engineering novel therapies for Flu/Ebola/Marburg in collaboration with industry/military.
I am interested in starting a business as an opportunity to create something of value for the World (or even just a few patients). I like working with very small teams because I think it is the best setting to learn from others, and the easiest way to see what impact my skills can have.

My passion has always been biology and application of such knowledge is the ultimate understanding of a subject. I am a quick learner and also an enthusiastic team player. Having multiple internship experiences allows me to understand and experience the technicality and also the difficulties in the biotech industry. Also co-founded a company as well, I know very well the difficulty and hardships experienced during the first few years of a startup.

I worked with E.coli metabolic pathways which give the relationships among compounds and the conversion of a certain mass of precursor material to another mass of products during a particular time period such as GABA and Malic acid.
I also worked in the field of molecular biology with the bacterial two-component regulatory system, which serve as a basic stimulus-response coupling mechanism, allowing organisms to sense and respond to changes in many different environmental conditions.
Presently, I am working in project to determine the protein structure and function of some Gram-negative pathogenic bacteria for drug-designing.

I am a materials engineer, always looking for new challenges and opportunities.
Thanks to my background in engineering, I gained an analytical way of thinking, being able to deal with problems, identifying their causes and reaching their solutions. This has been further enhanced during my years abroad, in which I have had responsibilities for different projects, and I learnt how to be independent in dealing with the diverse issues that can arise in them.
In addition to this, since my work and studies often involved working with people from various different backgrounds, I think that my communication and teamwork skills have been enhanced and refined throughout the years. I have learned how to express, motivate and sustain my opinions, and also how to listen, and organize ideas from others

I started out planning to be in academia for life, but throughout my career I discovered that I would like to work on directly applicable research and providing tangible and useful options/products for people.

My current work is all done at the bench, I am very experienced in all the basic molecular biology and biochemistry techniques (think CRISPR editing, protein design and purification, RNA work, confocal microscopy, PCR, cloning, etc).

In the past I have worked with clinical samples in a massive scale to determine certain genetic traits. I am currently in an institution associated with a hospital, so I believe arrangements for collaborations and use of patient samples are possible in the future if needed by the project.
