Co-founder hub
Overview

"OneStart is a colossal stimulus for university entrepreneurship at all levels from undergraduates to academic staff."

– Hagan Bayley, Co-founder of Oxford Nanopore

The OneStart Co-founder Hub gives you the chance to build your perfect team or join a biotech startup.

All teams are advised to browse this hub to complement their teams with co-founders. One of our judging criteria will be the breadth of expertise within your team.

If you do not have an idea of your own, but experience or skills that would be useful to a bio-entrepreneur, register now as a co-founder. Our goal is to link people with ideas with those who can help them realise it.

Send an email now to somebody below, and who knows, you might be picking up an oversized cheque with them in May 2016.

I'm fascinated by the application of biology to the everyday world and the use of medical research to immediately impact patient outcomes. I bring my diverse experiences in translational research, and a strong passion for medical research and helping patients and the medically under-served. I'm a recent graduate of UC Berkeley in Molecular and Cell Biology and currently a researcher at UCSF's Grand Multiple Myeloma Translational Initiative. Most significantly during my undergrad, I studied antimalarial drug resistance in Uganda, presented an honors thesis on my undergraduate research on an engineered cardiac patch for post-infarction treatment, studied an important signalling pathway in liver cancer in Singapore's National Cancer Center, and studied leech embryonic development at Cal.

I am a mathematical engineer and now I am in a double degree project between Politecnico di Milano and EPFL for "Computational Science and Engineering". I received a good formation in numerics and in general physical and engineeristic topics, but I have always been interested in the application of mathematics in biology or biophysics. I am a positive person who can bring a great help to a team that has mathematical or computational needs. I like phenomena modellization and implementation of numerical methods; the programming language that I prefere are Matlab or C++. I am a determinate worker, with soft-skills suitable for team projects.

I am studying both medicine and bioengineering as undergraduate student based in London. I have also completed several business/entrerpreneurship courses. I am very interested in entrepreneurship evidenced by being part of 'Doctorpreneurs' and a new UK initiative in developing med-tech entrepreneurship among UK universities. I myself am in the process of identifying a medical problem and hope to begin gathering a team in the near future for the next Onestart Round. I am very happy to talk to all of you here, whether you're an established biotech entrepreneur or a budding entrepreneur in the same boat as me, looking for co-founders. I'm happy to collaborate.
All the best!

Belonging to a family of doctors, a biotech startup has always been my dream and ambition. Applying technology to bring healthcare to the masses has always been something I've dreamt of, and this something led me to work on designing mass-producible 3D printed prosthetics in my final semester.

I bring a mix of biology and mechanical engineering expertise to the table coupled with a sprinkle of management experience at my day job. I'm looking forward to explore creative means to contribute to the community and to the industry as a whole

I am passionate about Biotech entrepreneurship because I believe that start-ups, university spin-outs and individual entrepreneurs in the Biotech and broader pharmaceutical sector are the key to the future development of the pharmaceutical industry as large pharma turn to in-licensing technologies rather than in house discovery and early development. I have a unique perspective, trained in Chemistry and Physics as an undergraduate, then obtaining a PhD in biotech/pharmaceutical formulation development. I now work as an associate at a biotech business development consultancy and as a postdoctoral researcher at Monash University on the “Inhaled Oxytocin Project” developing an innovative inhalable formulation of oxytocin for the prevention of post-partum haemorrhage in resource poor settings

I'm a PhD student in Aston University at Ebri institute and I'm part of the Surface, Material and Catalysis group and I have developed skills in characterisation and synthesis of new materials, followed by their application. Therefore the knowledge I will bring is fundamental for this project. I'm interested in biotech because I know only a little about that.

Having recently joined a BBSRC iCASE project which aims for students to gain both academic and industrial expertise as well as in my case, theoretical (metabolic modelling) and experimental techniques, I want to follow the direction of applying my skills for translating research into applications. Currently learning a wide swathe of skills including software engineering and metabolic engineering, and so I will be well placed in a project from its inception in planning and designing strain development as well as feasibility analysis.

Biotech entrepreneurship is one of the most important global markets, integrating technological advancements from a broad range of sciences to best enhance humanity. Biological processes are not only key to improving quality of life, but are also a route to numerous high-value chemicals that cannot be feasibly produced through existing industrial processes. I have a broad range of experiences in managing small teams and excel in finding solutions to complex problems, which compliments my strong background in chemistry and related Operational Health and Safety. My previous business endeavors have been successful, but were limited by their scope. I have a professional demeanor and will work hard to see my team succeed. I am genuinely interested in discussing project opportunities.

I have been trained in physics and I want to get into biotech - intriguing! Well, it's always pleasure to do physics, but what brings a little more pleasure and a sense of pride is - "This is what I have built-up using physics and yes, it can solve your problems". Exactly, this is the reason I want to get into entrepreneurship. Biotech attracts me because this is one way of making science reach to the masses and for a good reason.

I have specialised in optics and have been working on it for around 8 years now. I have fairly good understanding of optics and use of light as a probe. Last year, we (I and two of my teammates) have come up with a design (algorithm is in the test phase), for a device that is expected to raise an early alarm in case of MI, commonly known as heart-attack.
