Co-founder hub

"OneStart is a colossal stimulus for university entrepreneurship at all levels from undergraduates to academic staff."

– Hagan Bayley, Co-founder of Oxford Nanopore

The OneStart Co-founder Hub gives you the chance to build your perfect team or join a biotech startup.

All teams are advised to browse this hub to complement their teams with co-founders. One of our judging criteria will be the breadth of expertise within your team.

If you do not have an idea of your own, but experience or skills that would be useful to a bio-entrepreneur, register now as a co-founder. Our goal is to link people with ideas with those who can help them realise it.

Send an email now to somebody below, and who knows, you might be picking up an oversized cheque with them in May 2016.

I am a multidisciplinary research student with excellent knowledge in point-of-care, microfluidic, molecular (DNA) diagnostic device development. Possesses unique knowledge gained through interdisciplinary projects (academic and industrial collaborations) in sample preparation, nucleic acid assay development and product design. In 2012, I began my PhD at Brunel University within a large interdisciplinary group. My research focuses on the development of an integrated molecular diagnostic device for Point-of-Care testing in resource-limited settings.

I come from an interdisciplinary background, having completed training in the humanities and biological sciences. I currently work in a cGMP environment where we make translational medicine ("bench-to-bedside therapies") a reality. I am a strong multi-tasker with an acute awareness of deadlines. I am keen to connect with young entrepreneurs who seek to change the way we do medicine and with an ultimate eye to improving human health. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me to discuss any opportunities.

I am interested in biotech entrepreneurship because I have a passion for health information technology. Unfortunately, HIT is far behind most other industries. I want to be part of the solution that narrows and closes that gap.

I have completed a Masters in Public Health program, am in the process of a Health Information Technology Certificate program, and work in the healthcare field, which has given me insight into how biotech can solve healthcare problems. Additionally, I have previously studied design and psychology, which will aid in creating a user friendly and attractive product.

Development of precisely tuned polymer peptide-drug conjugates for drug delivery
Codelviery of drugs for cancer treatment is a routine approach in clinics. However, the treatment poses several issues, such as different cellular uptakes and biodistribution of two different drugs. The development of carefully tuned polymer-peptide vectors would allow site specific attachment of each drug to the polymer-peptide backbone, hence fixing the molar ratio of two drugs per polymer chain.

I did my masters in biotechnology and I earned doctorate degree in infectious where I learnt developing non-¬‐invasive tools of diagnostic biomarkers for Visceral Leishmaniasis. Presently I am focused on molecular and biochemical aspects of therapeutics against Staphylococcus aureus targeting ion channels and bioenergetics.
Now, having tremendous training and understanding in diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets of pathogenic microbes, I am highly interested in industrial approach of therapeutics .As a postdoc fellow, I meticulously learned to plan, execute and comprehensively analyze the outcomes, which are clearly evident from my publications. Now, I am interested to apply my research expertise and skills in pharmaceutical industry to take basic research from lab to industry.

My passion has always been biology and application of such knowledge is the ultimate understanding of a subject. I am a quick learner and also an enthusiastic team player. Having multiple internship experiences allows me to understand and experience the technicality and also the difficulties in the biotech industry. Also co-founded a company as well, I know very well the difficulty and hardships experienced during the first few years of a startup.

Brief intro
Originally from the UK, I received my PhD from Edinburgh University studying chromatin structure in Robin Allshire's laboratory before moving to Stanford to enjoy the Californian weather as a postdoc in the Biochemistry department.

My current research in Aaron Straight's laboratory studies the regulation of protein networks at the centromeric region of chromosomes. This work aims to better understand how cells become cancerous by identifying how key centromeric protein complexes interact and are regulated to prevent chromosome mis-segregation - the most common hallmark of human solid tumor cells.

As well as using molecular cloning and mammalian tissue culture techniques, my work specializes in the use of single molecule imaging, protein production / purification, and mass spectrometry.

My Master thesis was in Biotech companies' innovation and internationalization. I did a series of case studies across companies in Italy and in the US, and I became passionate about that industry. My professional patter brought me on the IT side for 4 years, now it may be the right time to apply my skills and knowledge on a different field. I bring my skills in Sales, Finance, IT at functional level, and - above all - a great passion to learn and apply new things.
