Co-founder hub

"OneStart is a colossal stimulus for university entrepreneurship at all levels from undergraduates to academic staff."

– Hagan Bayley, Co-founder of Oxford Nanopore

The OneStart Co-founder Hub gives you the chance to build your perfect team or join a biotech startup.

All teams are advised to browse this hub to complement their teams with co-founders. One of our judging criteria will be the breadth of expertise within your team.

If you do not have an idea of your own, but experience or skills that would be useful to a bio-entrepreneur, register now as a co-founder. Our goal is to link people with ideas with those who can help them realise it.

Send an email now to somebody below, and who knows, you might be picking up an oversized cheque with them in May 2016.

What interests me most about biotech entrepreneurship is the ability for small companies to focus on and develop new technologies that can improve the world around us. I believe that my 3 years of experience with consulting has granted me a unique and advantageous skillset of having both a business and biology background. This gives me a distinct advantage with helping advise small biotech companies that are new to the world of business.

I have been in healthcare for the past 10 years and since then noticed most of times we spend time, energy and money treating the cause rather than preventing the cause. Biotech entrepreneurship gives me the platform to design devices where individuals can take charge of their own health and prevent ailments. My specialty lies in treating sports injuries and I have the understanding of what is the current need to prevent these injuries. My management degree from ESSEC in healthcare industry gives me the business aspect and how to spin a start-up. I am in need of Bio-medical/any engineers who know how to make bio-sensors and have knowledge about cloud computing.

Biotech is a rapidly growing market in which healthcare products are always in demand.

I am from a 3rd world country, Zimbabwe, and am currently studying at the University of Manchester. Medical equipment readily available in 1st world countries is not easily accessible or is too expensive and therefore patients go to countries like South Africa to get treated.

Since I am from Zimbabwe, I have local knowledge and my family is business oriented, in a different field though. I can use my technical knowledge from engineering and business knowledge from working with my dad to startup a business in Zimbabwe and then expand it to other parts of Africa in which I supply medical equipment, install it and then provide regular maintenance.

I started out planning to be in academia for life, but throughout my career I discovered that I would like to work on directly applicable research and providing tangible and useful options/products for people.

My current work is all done at the bench, I am very experienced in all the basic molecular biology and biochemistry techniques (think CRISPR editing, protein design and purification, RNA work, confocal microscopy, PCR, cloning, etc).

In the past I have worked with clinical samples in a massive scale to determine certain genetic traits. I am currently in an institution associated with a hospital, so I believe arrangements for collaborations and use of patient samples are possible in the future if needed by the project.
