Co-founder hub

"OneStart is a colossal stimulus for university entrepreneurship at all levels from undergraduates to academic staff."

– Hagan Bayley, Co-founder of Oxford Nanopore

The OneStart Co-founder Hub gives you the chance to build your perfect team or join a biotech startup.

All teams are advised to browse this hub to complement their teams with co-founders. One of our judging criteria will be the breadth of expertise within your team.

If you do not have an idea of your own, but experience or skills that would be useful to a bio-entrepreneur, register now as a co-founder. Our goal is to link people with ideas with those who can help them realise it.

Send an email now to somebody below, and who knows, you might be picking up an oversized cheque with them in May 2016.

I believe that any idea, no matter how simple that can help diagnose, treat, evaluate treatments or simply reduce symptoms of a disease should be granted a chance to be translated into a usable technology or product to improve patient outcomes. I believe that biotech entrepreneurship is the means to achieving this.
I bring extensive technical skills in software and firmware development, investigative and research skills including the ability to design, analyzed and evaluate outcomes of experiments. I also bring communication skills, public speaking and technical writing allowing me to share knowledge with both scientific and consumer communities. Finally, I bring the passion and ambition to make a difference along with it comes the hard work, problem solving and dedication.

Through undertaking the MSci programme in Integrative Pharmacology and Physiology for Research at King’s College London, I have had significant laboratory experience both in the in vivo setting but also when attempting to design novel proof-of-concept in vitro and ex vivo assays. Furthermore, through the invaluable laboratory experience gained at the biopharmaceutical company UCB, I have become proficient in many experimental techniques including ELISA, MSD, PCR, Western Blot and multicolour flow cytometry.

I endeavour to pursue a research career in which I significantly contribute to the development of techniques and methodologies which improve our collective understanding of as yet poorly defined concepts.

I originally wanted to go to medical school. I kept getting distracted while going through my engineering program, but I am still very interested in medicine. I came to the realization that I needed to combine the two interests and now that is what drives me. I am working on a number of medical innovations that will hopefully help many in the years to come. The thing that I am most passionate about right now is my own personal project to significantly improve the dialysis process. Patients get sick and most cant wait long enough to get a transplant. My solution is to introduce a new material that will not only improve patient care length, but increase the quality of life while undergoing treatment.

Having been a previous semi-finalist of OneStart, I engage my passion for life sciences through entrepreneurial activities. While currently a PhD student in cancer research at drug development @ Cambridge, I am also undertaking a degree in Finance from LSE, as well as in internship in life sciences venture capital, giving me a unique insight into priming biotech startups for attracting investment.

I'm also a co-founder of a small Cambridge-based biotech, again helping me develop skills to help drive growth and build a business case for biotech-based ideas.

Please reach out if you'd like to chat about any aspect of above, or how we might work together to build a sustainable startup capable of attracting investment and moving through the produce development process.

Brief intro
I have a passion for problem solving and coming up with effective long term solutions. Currently, I am in the 2nd year of my PhD in Cancer biology. My work involves investigating and validating biomarkers for chemoresistance in ovarian cancer. In addition to this I have worked as a consultant for a charity where I was involved in developing an Evidence Gap Map for Glaucoma Patients. This helped broaden my understanding of what goes into helping patients make decisions regarding personalized treatment options.
In my spare time I like to indulge in learning how to code and improve my statistical skills ( beyond teaching undergrads).
I am interested in getting involved in a startup and would love to offer what I have learnt over the years in research/academia and consulting.

Brief intro
For the past few years I have had a continuous flow of motivation to learn. I graduated with a degree in Biology from USA then I returned to my home country Egypt and studied Medicine. Throughout my medical studies I prepared myself for Neuroscience research by obtaining training in multiple institutions in USA and Europe. Then I did a European Masters in Neuroscience at top universities in Germany and Netherlands. I am interested in being part of a start up focusing on Neurodegenerative diseases and I believe I have a very strong background to allow me to be of benefit. I'm independent yet enjoy being part of a team. I am aware of all aspects of Neurodegenerative diseases from molecular to clinical including what patients experience. Research, for me, is more than a career, it's a cause.
