Co-founder hub
Overview

"OneStart is a colossal stimulus for university entrepreneurship at all levels from undergraduates to academic staff."

– Hagan Bayley, Co-founder of Oxford Nanopore

The OneStart Co-founder Hub gives you the chance to build your perfect team or join a biotech startup.

All teams are advised to browse this hub to complement their teams with co-founders. One of our judging criteria will be the breadth of expertise within your team.

If you do not have an idea of your own, but experience or skills that would be useful to a bio-entrepreneur, register now as a co-founder. Our goal is to link people with ideas with those who can help them realise it.

Send an email now to somebody below, and who knows, you might be picking up an oversized cheque with them in May 2016.

Brief intro
I am a postdoctoral scientist in bioinformatics in the Department of Medicine at Imperial College London. My research involves statistical analysis of large volumes of biological and clinical data for the identification of gene targets for diagnosis and treatment of rare autoimmune diseases. Before that, I completed a DPhil in Statistics and an MSc in Computer Science at the University of Oxford.

I see biotech entrepreneurship as a great platform to apply innovative science to provide tangible solutions to the healthcare industry, that have direct impact to people's lives. I would be a great fit to any project with a data analysis component – I am especially interested in personalised medicine and genetics.

My research project was ‘Surface modification of electrospun nano/micro-fibrous (PLGA) scaffolds via photo-chemical treatment for tissue engineering applications’. During the course of this project, I have answered the challenge of polymer synthesis, fabrication of polymer into delivery vehicle through electrospinning, polymer-growth factor conjugation and studied growth factor release profile. In addition, I have studied the stability of growth factors in tissue engineering scaffolds. Simultaneously, I have acquired experience of material characterization techniques, microscopy techniques (inverted, phase contrast and fluorescence) and in-vitro cell study techniques.

I am a medical doctor (2012 Oxford alumnus) and I am now in my 3rd year of my DPhil (PhD) in Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Oxford. I am interested in bio entrepreneurship and innovation. Having a medical background, I know how the hospitals work and the patients' needs which is essential in order to identify a good gap in the market. In addition, doing my DPhil in basic and translational research, I have good exposure to lab techniques, seminars, state-of-the-art technology and I have seen how research is being translated to have a clinically relevant effect. I would like to collaborate in forming a biotech company. I am interested in a wide range of biomedical topics, so if you want to collaborate get in touch.

With a recent PhD in cell biology, I am a postdoc developing novel assays applicable in preclinical drug discovery processes. I co-invented and developed a novel method for testing specific enzymatic reactions in a high-throughput manner, which is currently undergoing a European patent application process.

Besides my research skills, I gained experience in technology commercialisation and business development through my current work in a dynamically growing international network of innovative entrepreneurs, researchers and investors.

An enthusiastic team player with a strong background in molecular biology and drug discovery, with some experience in IP protection, technology commercialisation and investment, I am now looking to join a great team for a new, exciting challenge!

Biotech offers one of the most promising areas with which entrepreneurship can transform our lives for the better. I seek projects that can truly make a positive impact on the world, and allow me to apply and further develop my key skills of Problem Solving, Software Engineering, Maths, Physics and Finance. As a Post-doc Researcher and Software Developer in the Maths Institute at Oxford University, I love learning and challenging myself. I aim to be as adaptable and flexible as I possibly can be, and the variety of work required in founding a Biotech start-up offers, I believe, great opportunities for my own personal growth.
